Our Company

Hopeful Monster is a brand new collaboration between three puppeteers from three different cities, brought together by a shared desire to create unusual and surprising puppet shows.

Meet the puppeteers:

Hopeful Monster

A ‘hopeful monster’ is what you get when a sudden genetic mutation creates a radically new organism. Such individuals are most likely plain monstrous and doomed to extinction. But every so often a hopeful monster is born; a mutant with an evolutionary future ready to take on the world.

Hopeful Monster

A hopeful monster is what you get when a sudden genetic mutation creates a radically new organism. Such individuals are most likely plain monstrous and doomed to extinction. But every so often a hopeful monster is born; a mutant with an evolutionary future and the potential to take its species in an unexpected new direction.

The Company

Hopeful Monster is a new collaboration between Ella, Eti & Bori – three curious puppeteers from different cities brought together by our shared desire to create surprising puppet shows that are weird and wonderful.

Ella Mackay

Puppeteer, maker, and lover of hands based in Glasgow, preoccupied with emotive movement.

Eti Meacock

London-based artist, puppeteer and idealist, dedicated to doing the unnecessary with love.

Bori Mezö

Puppeteer and English Literature graduate from Budapest, with a strong belief in the power of visual storytelling.

Sadly, we don’t have a theatre building…
But we really like to be invited to festivals and puppet theatres to show our unique production!!!

Current Show

Hopeful Monsters

Transmographiles is a piece of visual theatre with original soundtrack by Michael Hyland. Six hands move, morph and combine in unusual ways, creating unexpected creatures and characters. Travel with us through water, earth and air as we follow the journey from basic life forms to complex beasts in a surreal evolutionary narrative of shape shifting and transformation.
